The London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is located West of Luton airport a distance of 12 miles that would take around 35 minutes by taxi via the A1011 and A4. It is a central London borough with Royal borough status and has a population of 158,300 according to 2011 statistics.

The borough was formed in 1965 with the merging of the borough of Chelsea with the royal metropolitan borough of Kensington. In medieval times the Manor of Chelsea was in the possession of Westminster Abbey and after the dissolution of the monestaries Henry VIII confistacted the Manor along with Sir Thomas More's estate, and gave it to his last wife, Catherine Parr. In 1700 Chelsea became known for its production of Chelsea Porcelain, Ranelagh for an entertainment centre and today the economy of the borough is driven by the service sector largely based on the boutiques, antique shops, pubs, and hotels of King's Road, Kensington High Street, and Knightsbridge.

Queen Victoria granted it a royal charter in 1901 having being born at Kensington Palace 1819 and many of the locality carries the name of Prince Albert such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial. Some notable places include Carlyles House-home of famous writer and historian Thomas Carlyle, Chelsea Old Church which was associated with Sir Thomas More in the 1500s and The Leighton House Museum and Art Gallery.
